Harckham Praises Allstate for Rebate to Car Insurance Customers During Coronavirus Crisis

Senator calls for all insurance companies with automobile policies in New York State to follow Allstate’s lead

New York State Senator Pete Harckham yesterday issued the following statement in response to the news that Allstate will rebate auto insurance customers 15% of their monthly premiums for April and May, and give them free identity protection as well, because of financial hardships caused by the coronavirus pandemic:

“I want to thank Allstate for issuing coronavirus rebate checks to policy holders in recognition of the few miles people are driving, and hence, encountering fewer accidents. It is the socially responsible thing to do, and I thank them for their corporate citizenship.

“Now is not the time for profiteering. Today I am calling for all insurance companies with automobile policies in New York State to follow Allstate’s lead and provide similar refunds to their policyholders. Many car insurance customers really need the money right now because of the economic downturn that we are experiencing, and giving them this support would benefit our communities as well.”

State Senator Harckham represents New York's 40th District, which includes the towns of Beekman, Pawling and the village of Pawling in Dutchess County; the towns of Carmel, Patterson and Southeast, and the village of Brewster in Putnam County; and the city of Peekskill, the towns of Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers and Yorktown, the town/village of Mount Kisco, and the villages of Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County.
