Local restoration times vary from tomorrow at 3:00 pm to 11:00 p.m. on August 10
Tropical Storm Isaias caused widespread destruction, bringing down thousands of trees and entangling power lines.
Today, crews continued relentlessly restoring electricity in New York City and Westchester County, bringing the number of customers back in service to more than 270,000.
The work, which is taking place on the streets and in aerial buckets in the region’s neighborhoods, will continue around the clock until the more than 300,000 customers affected by storm Isaias are back in service.
When You Can Expect Your Power Back
An enormous workforce will be working around-the-clock. Customer outages and restoration times for the vast majority of customers by county are shown below. Some restorations will take place early next week.
- Westchester County where the electric delivery system is nearly all overhead has 53,000 customers out of service with local restoration times that vary from tomorrow at 3:00 pm to 11:00 p.m. on August 10.
- Queens has 19,000 customers without power and a restoration time of 11:00 p.m. on August 9.
- The Bronx with 9,700 customers out of service and a restoration time of 11:00 p.m. on August 9.
- Staten Island has 3,200 customers without service and a restoration time of 11:00 p.m. on August 9.
- Brooklyn has 1,400 customers without service and a restoration time of 11:00 p.m. on August 9.
Con Edison has more than 1,700 of its own field workers on the job and is currently getting help from more than 1,230 mutual aid and contract workers from as far away as Texas, Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin. An additional 300 workers will join this effort by Sunday.
How We Prioritize Restorations
We’re working with public works crews to clear hundreds of roads blocked by fallen trees. Clearing roads is an essential first step to restoration, which also involves replacing poles, wires, and transformers. Once the roads are clear, we can check for any damage to our system and assign crews and equipment to the area to begin repairs.
We restore power to critical facilities, like hospitals, and customers who depend on life-support equipment, first. Then we prioritize repairs that will provide power to the most customers quickly, and move on to restore the remaining customers. In many areas, crews are re-building entire sections of the overhead electric delivery system that were destroyed by winds that gusted up to 70 miles per hour.
Crews will continue to work through next week until all customers have their power back.
