Exchange Club of New Canaan Kicks Off Its Annual Christmas Tree Sale Nov. 29!

<p>The Exchange Club of New Canaan will kick off its annual Christmas Tree sale at Kiwanis Park on Friday, November 29th. This year marks the Club’s fifty fifth year running the annual event, which raises funds for a variety of charitable organizations in New Canaan and nearby communities.</p><p>The tree lot in Kiwanis Park, on Old Norwalk Road, will be open every day. New Canaan Veterans Day Ceremony Guest Speaker is Army Veteran Rich Mercado

<p>New Canaan's annual Veterans Day ceremony to honor and commemorate the service of all military veterans will be held at the Wayside Cross at the bottom of God’s Acre on Monday, November 11, 2024.</p><p>Mike McGlinn, the Commander of The Howard M. Bossa / Peter C. Langenus Post VFW 653 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States will lead the Ceremony set to begin at 10:45 AM.&nbsp;</p><p>In addition to the VFW, town officials and the Daughters of the American Revolution DAR will participate in the ceremony.</p><p>First Selectman, Dionna Carlson, will introduce the guest speaker. This year the guest speaker will be Rich Mercado. Rich is a 35-year resident of New Canaan, an Army Veteran, graduate of the U.S. Army School of Engineering and is fluent in Spanish. He has a successful career in Direct Marketing including catalog, direct mail and list management.</p><p>During his time in the U.S. Army, Rich served in a variety of assignments, including as helicopter crew chief in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge.</p><p>Refreshments will be served at the Town Hall following the Ceremony. In case of rain, the ceremony will take place inside Town Hall.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Violinist Alexi Kenney, violist Ayane Kozasa, cellist Gabriel Cabezas, and cellist-composer Paul Wiancko (now also a member of the iconic Kronos Quartet) weave together new compositions with original arrangements of music ranging from the 1600s to the present. Most of Evensong is sung by the choir, freeing the congregation to attend prayerfully to the “holiness of beauty.” The St. Mark’s Choir &amp; Soloists offer a service of Evensong for the Feasts of All Saints &amp; All Souls. During the service, Lydia Cseh Dahling will sing Maurice Ravel’s extraordinary setting of the Kaddish, chanted during Jewish prayer services in mourning for the dead. The service will also feature music of the French composer Maurice Duruflé (movements from his Requiem), a Magnificat &amp; Nunc Dimittis on Plainsong themes as well as a setting of the Preces &amp; Responses, allcomposed for the occasion by the Director of Music Ministries. </p><p><a href="https://events.culturalalliancefc.org/events/agatha-christie-s-and-then-there-were-none-97eb0" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(17, 85, 204);"><strong>Agatha Christie's AND THEN THERE WERE NONE</strong></a></p><p><strong>Powerhouse Theatre Performing Arts Center</strong></p><p>Sunday Nov 3, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm</p><p>Much like the members of our Workshop, Agatha Christie did not shy away from the input of others on her work. Rather, she "took into account what was perceived to be the needs of audiences during a very dark time in history," according to her grandson Mathew Prichard. The novel, originally written in 1939, had a much darker ending than what Christie eventually wrote for the stage play version in 1943. Post war audiences yearned to escape to a world where things worked out neatly. And so, we have two endings. Both were successful in their own right at the time of publication. Now we're asking you to look again through the lens of today.&nbsp;</p>
