COLD WEATHER WARM KITCHENS 2015 is underway, and the holidays are behind us. For farmers and shoppers, this week was back-to-work with some really cold weather. If filling up your car's gas tank in sub-zero weather and putting away holiday items in the evenings leaves you blue, cheer yourself by fitting in some simple recipes with real foods. The Pleasantville Farmers Market is full of root vegetables, apples, meats and fresh winter-grown produce, providing diverse ingredients for winter meals. Winter cooking can be colorful, like Mead Orchard's winter squash. And hearty meals (soups, stews, roasted vegetables, baked pork chops, meatloaf or chicken) really do warm one's outlook and home. Phelps Health Tip: Health experts emphasize the significance of reducing sodium (high in processed foods) and increasing potassium levels in one's diet. Potassium occurs naturally in many items such as beets and beet greens, Brussels sprouts, chard, kale, mushrooms, potatoes, radishes, spinach, and squash. So who's here this week? Rotation Vendors are specifically listed in the left column of this newsletter. Look to our Map of the Market to see all vendors in this Saturday.
