The event was inaugurated on the last Saturday night in February 2000 by the esteemed husband and wife team Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher (at the time 'Tastings' columnists for the Wall Street Journal) as a way to motivate wine lovers everywhere to open that bottle they've been keeping for a special occasion.
