Katonah Poetry Series Presents Mónica de la Torre

Katonah Poetry Series Presents Mónica de la Torre

On Sunday, April 8 at 4 pm the Katonah Poetry Series will celebrate National Poetry Month with noted Mexican-American poet, Mónica de la Torre. De la Torre is the author of five books of poetry, as well as translations of Spanish and Persian poetry. Her most recent volume, The Happy End / All Welcome has been described as follows: “Part ekphrasis, part theatrical production, de la Torre’s book stages often hilarious exchanges. Part of her gift as a writer is comedic timing, manipulating recognizable situations and the vocabulary they provide to release minor affects such as frustration, annoyance, skepticism, and embarrassment.” (Nathaniel Rosenthalis)

A native of Mexico City, De la Torre earned her undergraduate degree there, then completed her MFA and PhD in Spanish Literature from Columbia. She currently teaches at Brown University.

Doors open at 3:30 pm. The reading will be followed by audience Q&A, a public reception, and book signing with the poet. De La Torre’s books will be available for sale, as well as How a Poem Can Happen: Interviews with Twenty-One Extraordinary Poets by Andrew Kuhn. The Katonah Village Library is located at 26 Bedford Road, an easy walk from the MetroNorth train station. Street parking is available. For further information and to read our exclusive KPS interview of Mónica de la Torre, please visit www.katonahpoetry.com.

Mark your calendars! KPS’s poetry readings will continue on June 3, 2018 with 2016 Pulitzer-Prize winner Peter Balakian.
