Saturday, August 7 is National Purple Heart Day

From the dawning of the Revolutionary War through the Global War on Terror, Americans have always stood for freedom and liberty. Throughout our nation's history, an estimated 1.8 million brave service members have answered the call to serve and paid the ultimate price - either being wounded- or killed-in-action. We call these men and women our Purple Heart heroes. On August 7th each year, Americans come together to honor the service and sacrifices made by our Purple Heart recipients.

This Saturday at 10:30 am ET, the National Purple Heart Honor Mission will host a National Purple Heart Day tribute ceremony from Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh, New York. On this hallowed ground, then-General George Washington devised a new badge of distinction for enlisted men and noncommissioned officers. Known as the Badge of Military Merit, it was awarded to three men. One hundred and fifty years later, the award was revived as the Purple Heart. Today, it continues to be known as the one award our heroes never wished to receive, but couldn't be more humbled to wear.

TUNE IN AT 10:30 AM (ET) ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, FOR OUR VIRTUAL PURPLE HEART DAY CEREMONY.
