Town of Lewisboro COVID-19 Update: 48 Cases, Town Budget and Property Tax News

Good Evening Residents,

Today is Thursday, April 16. The State reports indicate that Lewisboro’s positively tested residents increased by one to 48. Much of our time has been spent on options to reduce the Town’s expenses to match what will likely be much reduced revenue. Our approved budget depended on an increase in sales tax receipts – now just a distant dream as are our estimates of mortgage tax and Park & Recreation revenues.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:
On Friday, April 3, the Lewisboro Town Board met via recorded ZOOM which remains available to the public. During the meeting, we reached consensus in our support of the proposed County Law to allow for reduced penalties if you are late in paying your property taxes. The County Board of Legislators held a public hearing on the legislation Tuesday, April 14 and they are scheduled to vote after a continuation of the public hearing tomorrow, April 17 at their regularly scheduled 5:30PM meeting.

If you wish to make a public comment, you must register by 3PM the day of (Friday, 4/17). To register: call the Clerk of the Board at (914) 995-4604 or send an email to BOLpublichearingcomments@westchestergov.com

If you have additional inquiries, please contact County Legislator Kitley Covill’s office at ELPC@westchestergov.com or (914) 995-2810.

TOWN OF LEWISBORO SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE:
Next Wednesday, April 22 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Earth Day was a unified response to an environment in crisis. On this day, 50 years ago, 10% of the U.S. population protested environmental ignorance by joining civic demonstrations demanding a way forward for our planet. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement. Stay tuned for ways to celebrate from home and on-line. The advocacy work is far from over and we know that residents of Lewisboro care deeply about the wooded areas, open fields, and lakes that make up the surroundings of our homes and add to their value.

MASKS:
The Governor signed Executive Orders yesterday mandating facial coverings for those who are participating in activities such as grocery shopping, in which social distancing guidelines are likely broken here and there. It is an extra measure to keep everyone safe and relatively easy to do. We hope you find this resource helpful: https://time.com/5816956/how-to-make-a-face-mask-coronavirus/

PARKS AND REC:
In addition to offering Meals and Wheels we wanted to send along information from the Food Pantry at the Community Center of Northern Westchester, located at 84 Bedford Rd, Katonah, NY 10536:

Homebound elderly/immuno-compromised individuals in Lewisboro may be able to receive home delivery of food packages (generally once monthly). If people have means to pick up their packages, which include some meat and fresh produce if available, they can be picked up at the back door of The Center, lower level parking area. Strict social distancing is maintained and pantry workers are masked and gloved.

We developed a survey to gain input about communications going forward. We’d be grateful if you’d take 5 minutes and fill it out. http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07eh1d9ba9k91trt8q/start
