Town of Lewisboro COVID Recovery: Support JJHS Class of 2020, Census, Active Cases

As of last night, the Office of the Lewisboro Supervisor reported 3 active cases and still 95 total cases.  "We are pleased to report positive feedback from this weekend’s successful re-opening of Preserves. Thank you for being responsible and we look forward to your continued support as we re-open more recreational facilities this weekend," said Peter H. Parsons, et al.

Please read below for up to date information regarding Lewisboro's recovery efforts.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

On May 5th, Governor Cuomo’s office released a call to action (https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/node/2871(link is external)).  This initiative called for residents to submit PSA videos about the importance of masks for New Yorkers.  Lewisboro resident, Steve Grskovic, father of three and volunteer coach to many, heeded the call by pulling together a team of Dads and creating the following live production commercial in only one week:  https://www.instagram.com/p/CAOPpOAAGEW/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link (link is external) The Governor’s Office will pick 5 submissions and the public will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite.  While we don’t know that this video will make the cut, we certainly found it impressive enough to share and hope it spreads the message.  Congrats and good luck to Steve and his team!

CENSUS:

“There’s now a 3-way tie at the top - Scarsdale, Croton and Ardsley - all at 75.5%. In all, we have 5 municipalities that have reached a response rate over 75%!”  -Norma Drummond

Not only are we not in the top 3, Lewisboro only has 72.6% and didn’t garner a mention and we’re now tied with Yorktown.  Now is the time to focus, Lewisboro.  If you have already filled out your census (https://2020census.gov/(link is external)) find one person who hasn’t and ask them kindly and repeatedly to do so, until they affirm verbally or in writing that they have, and then reward them with something they like.  Let’s have a big bump and be mention-worthy once again for Norma Drummond’s next census update (likely Thursday or Friday).

COUNTY UPDATE:

The County remains on “Pause” until May 28th.  The rate of new and active infections continues on a steadily decline and we look forward to continuing in that direction.

Playland Amusement Park will be closed until at least mid-July, and Fireworks are cancelled for this year.  Despite the economic impact of this closure, County Executive Latimer has determined this course safest for moving forward.

SUPPORT JJHS CLASS OF 2020:

This is certainly no ordinary graduation year for our JJHS class of 2020.  In the absence of culminating events such as commencement speeches, a cap and gown ceremony, and the PROM parents from the KLSD community have developed an initiative to celebrate and encourage graduating seniors who wish to be acknowledged with gifts and messages of kindness from community members.

This initiative is called ‘Adopt a Senior’ and the entire community is being called on to participate.  If you want to participate as a giver click here(link is external). If you are a graduating senior and wish to participate click here(link is external).

LEWISBORO FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS: We could use your help to celebrate one of our very own!

On Sunday, May 31st, Lois Reynolds will be turning 101 years old. Lois was born and raised in Lewisboro and has been a resident in Cross River for most of her life.  She is still sharp and aging at home. Our Dept. is going to throw her a card party to help her celebrate during this pandemic.  We are kindly asking for town residents to gift her a birthday card. Our goal is 101 cards for her 101st birthday. You can send cards to Lois Reynolds, c/o Maureen Koehl (Town Historian) at 99 Elmwood Road, South Salem, NY 10590 or drop them off in the mail slot of the back door of the Parks and Recreation Department at the same address.

Maureen will deliver all the cards to Lois on her birthday.

PLEASE HELP US MAKE LOIS'S BIRTHDAY ONE FOR THE AGES!!! Thank you in advance of participating in this special town wide event.

HOME SWEET HOME

VOTING UPDATE:

The chair of the Lewisboro Democratic Committee, Joan Becker, was prompt to reach out after last week’s communication to let residents know that there are only primary races for Democrats on June 23rd, 2020. Apparently, the Westchester County Board of Elections is receiving many calls from people of other affiliations, including Independent and Unaffiliated voters, who are unsure about this.
